Every major project must carry out an EIA before applying for consent to build. It is designed to ensure that any possible effects of the project on the biological, physical and human elements of the local environment are carefully considered and potential mitigation planned. An EIA will be required for our applications for the Marine Licence, the Article 39 Consent and onshore planning approval. As part of the EIA process, we are carrying out a range of surveys and assessments.


The community were consulted on the scope of the EIA during our second round of Information Days in September 2013. We have also established six technical Working Groups made up of representatives from relevant organisations and statutory bodies, as well as individual specialists. Their purpose is to advise us on technical matters related to the EIA.

It is intended that the data from our Environmental Assessment work will be uploaded to the Marine Data Exchange by The Crown Estate for public use following appropriate quality assurance checks. This database can be found at http://www.marinedataexchange.co.uk.
